So you are planning a wedding! How exciting.

As an Event Designer clients ask me over and over about choosing a vendors for their wedding and it’s a very touchy topic for me. I compiled the tops 3 thumb rules from no other than the wedding Guru herself Martha Stewart.

For the people who know me very well, I am a diehard Marta fan and really love her clean chic style of wedding designs. Like Martha I believe strongly on focusing on details, less is more and clean savvy DIY’s.

Moving on before this article becomes a post about "everything me and Martha Stewart have in common".

1: ADVICE FROM AN EXPERT

“There may only be two of you walking down the aisle in the end, but the number of people that will help you plan the perfect wedding is far greater.” Yes she couldn’t have word this better. A wedding is really a celebration of two but a gathering of many, many, many, OK you get it #many. As a member of the Canadian wedding Expert Association, I always stress how important it is to work with a pro, and most people love to use that great aunty who just love glitters. Well guess what?, shes sweet but that does not cut it. We are experts because we have been in the industry for a very long time and has great experience with in our field. Any expert know that the end results are very important, however the behind the scene events that really pull your wedding together. And your darling little aunty may not have the experience.

2: TAKE RECOMMENDATIONS LIGHTLY

“A friend’s good word goes far, but there is no one caterer, band, or florist perfect for everyone. Compatibility is key: Do you have the same taste and temperament as the advice-giver? If not, proceed with caution. And never use all of the same vendors that a friend did -- it can leave your wedding feeling like a "repeat.”

Now you guys can see why I follow this woman, She’s taking the words right out my mouth. I just made myself comfortable, because with this topic, I am going to spend a while. As a vendor I love referrals, I believe it’s the best form of advertising.

Most times the person, who refer your service, does all the selling for you, you don’t have to say or do much in the consultation, just smile. Not really!

However I am a strong believer of exploring different avenues to suit your taste. As much as you love your friends & family, their vendors my not be yours.

3: LET YOUR PASSIONS DRIVE YOUR PRIORITIES

Let your passions drive your priorities is not only a life goal but should be applied in all areas of life especially your wedding. With whatever you do whether it something as simple as choosing flowers or deciding on your wedding cake designs, you should really be passionate about bring out your creative side.

Your wedding or event is the perfect setting to show case your creativity and each other personalities.
